In the Search field, enter one or more words of at least two characters. Then press Enter or click on Search. Narrowing your search You can narrow your search with the following criteria: - policy area - document type - time period To select a criterion, click on the arrow to its right. Then make a selection from the drop-down menu. More than one word You can narrow your search by placing the terms AND, OR, AND NOT, and NEAR between two or more words. Examples: - “Bot AND Balkenende” will find all the webpages containing the words "Bot" and "Balkenende"; - “Bot OR Balkenende” will find all the webpages containing the word "Bot" or "Balkenende"; - “Bot AND NOT Balkenende” will find all the webpages containing the word "Bot" but not "Balkenende"; - “Bot NEAR Balkenende” will find all the webpages containing the words "Bot" and "Balkenende" and list the webpages in order of how close together the two words appear. After narrowing your search criteria, click on Search. Widening your search If your search yields no results: - check your spelling; - try synonyms (“trade” instead of “commerce”); - make your search terms more general. Sorting You can sort your search results in two ways. By default, the search engine sorts its results by closest match. If the word you are searching for appears in a title, the webpage in which it appears will rank higher in the results list than one in which the word appears only in the body of the text. But you can also sort your search results by publication date. If you do so, the search engine will list the results starting with the most recent. Accent marks You don’t need to put accents on letters. For instance, you can search for "Nicolaï" by entering "Nicolai". The search engine cannot search for characters such as the following: @, #, %, ^, ( ), -, _, and =. |
